Alaska Ironhorse — 27-Day Self-Guided Motorcycle Tour

Ride one of North America’s great motorcycle journeys on a 27-day, 5,818-mile self-guided adventure from Seattle to Anchorage and back. The Alaska Ironhorse crosses Washington, British Columbia, Alberta, the Yukon, and Alaska, combining the Canadian Rockies, the legendary Alaska Highway, Denali, Anchorage, remote wilderness, mountain passes, turquoise lakes, wildlife, and great long-distance motorcycle roads.

Your journey begins in Seattle and heads north across the Canadian border to Harrison Hot Springs, then through the Fraser Valley and mountain country to Clearwater. From there, enter the Canadian Rockies and ride the Yellowhead Highway into Jasper National Park, surrounded by towering peaks, alpine valleys, and wildlife.

Continue north to Dawson Creek, Mile 0 of the Alaska Highway, where the northern expedition begins. The route takes you through Fort Nelson, past the turquoise waters of Muncho Lake, and into the Yukon. Ride through Watson Lake and its famous Sign Post Forest, then continue to Whitehorse before following the St. Elias Mountains and Kluane Lake to Destruction Bay.

Cross into Alaska at Beaver Creek and ride through Tok to Fairbanks, passing Delta Junction and the official end of the Alaska Highway. From Fairbanks, take the Parks Highway south toward Denali. On clear days, North America’s highest mountain dominates the horizon as you approach the park. Continue through the Matanuska-Susitna Valley to Anchorage, the turnaround point of the journey.

Enjoy a full rest day in Anchorage before beginning the return ride. Head north through Denali and Fairbanks, then back through Tok and across the border into the Yukon. Retrace the Alaska Highway south through Whitehorse, Watson Lake, the Northern Rockies, Fort Nelson, and Dawson Creek. Highlights include Kluane Lake, the Sign Post Forest, Liard Hot Springs, Milepost Zero, Mount Robson, Jasper National Park, and Harrison Hot Springs.

The final stretch carries you back through the Canadian Rockies and British Columbia before crossing into Washington and finishing in Seattle, completing a 5,818-mile loop through spectacular riding country in North America.

The trip includes 27 days, 26 nights, and 24 riding days, with daily riding distances generally ranging from about 123 to 325 miles. This is a true long-distance motorcycle adventure, so riders should be prepared for changing weather, wildlife, remote highways, occasional gravel or construction, sparse fuel stations, and areas with limited cellular or GPS service.

This is a self-guided tour, giving you the freedom to ride at your own pace while following a carefully planned route. Booking this Experience includes a detailed tour booklet with the complete itinerary, daily routes and mileage, recommended stops, restaurants, lodging suggestions, rider tips, and Google Maps navigation links with scenic waypoints.
