Yellowstone — 8-Day Self-Guided Motorcycle Tour
Ride a 560-mile loop from Jackson Hole through Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks, Lamar Valley, Cooke City, the Beartooth Highway, Red Lodge, Cody, and the Chief Joseph Scenic Byway. The itinerary includes six riding days, seven nights, and arrival and departure days in Jackson Hole.
Begin in Jackson Hole beneath the Teton Range. Day 2 is a relaxed 40-mile exploration of Grand Teton National Park, with Jenny Lake, Signal Mountain, mountain valleys, and alpine scenery providing time for frequent stops before returning to the Jackson area.
The next 100-mile stage heads north through Grand Teton and the Rockefeller Parkway toward West Yellowstone. The itinerary highlights Jackson Lake, Old Faithful, and Yellowstone’s geothermal landscapes before the overnight stop in the park’s western gateway.
Day 4 runs approximately 80 miles through Yellowstone toward Cooke City. Cross the park’s wildlife country and Lamar Valley before leaving through the Northeast Entrance. The next morning brings the tour’s signature ride: roughly 70 miles over the Beartooth Highway to Red Lodge. The road climbs to nearly 11,000 feet through switchbacks, jagged peaks, and glacial-lake scenery.
From Red Lodge, ride approximately 110 miles to Cody on the Chief Joseph Scenic Byway through alpine forest and rugged canyons. The final 160-mile stage returns through Yellowstone, past Yellowstone Lake, and south through Grand Teton to Jackson Hole.
The booklet lists temperatures from about 35–85°F and advises layers, rain gear, offline maps, early fuel stops, and advance lodging reservations. High mountain roads and national-park access can be sensitive to weather and seasonal conditions.
Daily mileage ranges from 40 to 160 miles, intentionally leaving time for wildlife, geothermal features, overlooks, lakes, and frequent scenic stops. The route moves through several distinct park environments: the Teton skyline and lake basin, Yellowstone’s geyser country, Lamar Valley’s wildlife corridor, the high alpine Beartooth Plateau, Chief Joseph canyon country, and the western town atmosphere of Cody. Because the loop returns to Jackson Hole, riders can begin and end from the same travel base while still covering two national parks and two celebrated scenic highways.
