Colorado Steamboat Springs — 3-Day Self-Guided Motorcycle Tour
Ride a 545-mile Northern Colorado loop from Denver through Glenwood Springs and Steamboat Springs, returning through Rocky Mountain National Park, Estes Park, and Boulder. This three-day tour delivers high mountain scenery, hot springs, river valleys, classic Colorado towns, and a memorable mix of sweeping highway and mountain-road riding.
Day 1 covers approximately 225 miles from Denver to Glenwood Springs. Head west on I-70 through the Front Range, Georgetown, the Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial Tunnel, Summit County, and Vail. The route continues through the Colorado River corridor and the dramatic walls of Glenwood Canyon before arriving in Glenwood Springs. The town’s historic center, restaurants, and large mineral hot-springs pool provide an ideal end to the first day.
The second stage is a shorter 115-mile ride from Glenwood Springs to Steamboat Springs. Travel west toward Rifle, then turn north on Colorado 13 through open ranch country and the energy-producing region around Meeker and Craig. From Craig, follow the Yampa River valley east toward Steamboat Springs. The landscape becomes greener and more mountainous as the route approaches the resort town, where hot springs, western history, and mountain views create a relaxed second-night stop.
Day 3 covers approximately 205 miles back to Denver. Follow US 40 east across northern Colorado and return through the Rocky Mountain National Park region. The planned route includes mountain passes, high alpine scenery, Estes Park, and Boulder before descending to Denver. Trail Ridge Road and other park routes are seasonal, so riders must confirm that the roads are open and determine whether timed-entry or park reservations are required before departure.
Elevation and weather are major considerations. Temperatures may range from warm low-elevation conditions to cold, windy weather near mountain passes. Afternoon thunderstorms, construction, wildlife, and sudden closures are possible. Pack layers and rain gear, download offline maps, plan fuel stops, and check road and park conditions each morning.
