Glacier National Park — 8-Day Self-Guided Motorcycle Tour

Ride a major Rocky Mountain loop beginning and ending in Cody, Wyoming, with Grand Teton, Yellowstone, Montana’s open country, Glacier National Park, Going-to-the-Sun Road, Bozeman, and some of the most spectacular mountain scenery in the American West.

Arrive in Cody with time to explore its western heritage before beginning the long ride toward West Yellowstone. The first riding day travels through Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone, combining sharp mountain silhouettes, broad valleys, wildlife habitat, geothermal country, and classic national-park roads before reaching West Yellowstone.

Day 3 continues approximately 230 miles north through Montana’s plains and valleys to Great Falls, positioning you for the approach to Glacier. The next 130-mile stage heads toward St. Mary at Glacier’s eastern entrance. Rolling foothills steadily give way to the park’s dramatic peaks, creating a memorable transition from prairie to alpine terrain.

The centerpiece is the approximately 60-mile ride from St. Mary to West Glacier on Going-to-the-Sun Road. The road climbs past waterfalls, glacial valleys, sheer cliffs, and Logan Pass at 6,646 feet before descending toward the park’s western side and Kalispell. This route is seasonal, weather-dependent, and subject to access controls, so road status and reservation requirements must be checked in advance.

From West Glacier, ride roughly 250 miles through Montana’s valleys and forests to Bozeman. The final riding day returns to Cody through the Yellowstone region, with the itinerary describing a route past Yellowstone Lake and Grand Teton before motorcycle drop-off. These are very long days in remote mountain country, requiring an early start and careful planning.

The booklet contains an important mileage inconsistency: its cover and closing pages state 960 miles, while the listed daily legs total 1,610 miles, including 426- and 514-mile days. Confirm the intended route and mileage before publishing or booking the trip.

Expect temperatures from approximately 35–85°F, rapid mountain weather, wildlife, sparse fuel, limited cell service, and seasonal road closures. Carry layers and rain gear, download offline maps, reserve lodging early, fuel whenever practical, and verify national-park access requirements.

This is a self-guided tour with no fixed departure times. Booking the Experience includes a detailed tour booklet with the complete itinerary, daily mileage, route guidance, recommended stops, restaurant and lodging suggestions, rider tips, and Google Maps links.
