Arizona and Grand Canyon — 8-Day Self-Guided Southwest Motorcycle Tour
Ride a 1,175-mile loop through Arizona, Utah, and Nevada, linking red-rock canyons, Route 66 towns, the Grand Canyon, Lake Powell, Zion National Park, Las Vegas, and the high-country forests around Flagstaff. The tour includes six riding days, seven nights, and arrival and departure days in Phoenix.
Begin in Phoenix with time to explore the desert city and prepare for the road. The first 245-mile riding day climbs north through Oak Creek Canyon and Sedona, where glowing sandstone formations frame a series of winding roads. Continue through the historic mining town of Jerome and finish in Williams, a classic Route 66 community and gateway to the Grand Canyon.
The next day covers approximately 190 miles from Williams to Page. Ride to the Grand Canyon and stop at viewpoints such as Mather Point before following the canyon’s eastern approaches toward northern Arizona. Pine forest gives way to open high desert as you approach Page, Lake Powell, and the region’s sculpted sandstone terrain.
From Page, ride about 120 miles past the Vermilion Cliffs and through Kanab toward Springdale, the entrance community for Zion National Park. Towering red and cream cliffs, tight curves, and the Virgin River valley make this one of the most visually dramatic sections of the tour. The following 200-mile stage leaves Zion for Las Vegas, trading quiet desert scenery for the energy of the city. The planned route includes St. George, Mesquite, and Boulder City, with the Hoover Dam area providing another major landmark.
The 270-mile ride from Las Vegas to Flagstaff reconnects with historic Route 66. Cross the Mojave landscape through Kingman and Williams, passing roadside attractions and traces of old highway culture before climbing into Flagstaff’s pine-covered mountain environment. The final 150-mile riding day returns to Phoenix through northern Arizona’s changing terrain, with possible stops around Sedona, Oak Creek Canyon, Cottonwood, and the Verde Valley.
Temperatures can range from hot desert conditions in Phoenix and Las Vegas to much cooler weather near the Grand Canyon, Zion, and Flagstaff. Riders should check weather daily, carry layers, fill up whenever fuel is available, download offline maps, and watch for wildlife and changing road conditions on mountain and desert roads.
This is a self-guided tour with no group schedule or fixed daily departure time. Booking the Experience includes a detailed booklet containing the complete itinerary, daily mileage, route information, recommended stops, restaurant and lodging suggestions, rider guidance, and Google Maps links with scenic waypoints.
