Getting started on Riders Share
How to create a great listing that attracts attention

You've listed your bike on Riders Share...so now what? In this guide, we will show you how to create a listing that will stand out. Every element of your listing is important when it comes to attracting renters and we want to help you find success.

Why List With Riders Share?

Did you know that most motorcycle owners ride less than 3,000 miles per year? It's true! But we still want the freedom to ride the bikes that we love when we want them. That means selling isn't an option. Owners on Riders Share tell us that they listed their bikes to help offset costs, or to make some extra money, or even to buy more motorcycles.

Earning Money With Riders Share

The top Owners on Riders Share make over $10,000 every month, and that figure is growing each year. After listing on Riders Share, many Owners are able to pay for their motorcycles or even buy more bikes. They can cover the cost of maintenance, tires, insurance, and more.

Peace of Mind

We know that it can be scary to hand over the keys to your motorcycle. That's why Riders Share pre-screens every renter. We also cover every rental with world-class insurance, up to $30,000. Unlike most private insurance, Riders Share policies even cover your gear and accessories as long as you have included them in your listing.

We offer two levels of Protection & Commission for all owners:

Standard - You earn 75% of the profit from each booking.

Premium - You earn 60% of the profit from each booking, but Riders Share pays for mechanical repairs that happen during a trip, and covers you for loss of income while your motorcycle is being fixed.

Creating the Ideal Riders Share Listing
Tips to Make Your Listing Stand Out

Let's start off with a little inside information: We give thorough listings preference in search because they attract more riders. The obvious question is, “what makes up a thorough listing?”

As an owner, you know how important bike choice is to a rider. It was important to you when you bought your motorcycle. Make sure that your listing stands out by including clear, detailed photos from different angles. Choose a location that is well-lit, and provides an attractive background without taking away from the motorcycle. Here are a couple examples of great owner photos that we've seen:

It's important to leave some room on all sides of your photo so that our system can crop them properly. Any photo that is not uploaded in a 16:9 aspect ratio will be cropped to that ratio before we display it. Most cameras and mobile phones have settings that allow you to take 16:9 photos so that you know exactly how the picture will look because it won't require cropping. Take photos from each side of the bike, then from the front and back as well. Some owners also like to include photos of the instrumentation, accessories, or other unique aspects that help to grab attention.

Describe Your Ride

When you fill in the General Bike Details section of your listing, we will do our best to automatically fill in some parts for you. Seat height, weight, and engine size should populate based on information provided by the manufacturer, but give them a double check just in case.

The Description & Features section is where you'll have your chance to really stand out. Use it to paint a picture for your potential renter. Is this your personal bike? What made you buy it? Have you added accessories that you want renters to know about? This is also a great place to list any unique qualities about your bike such as the MPG rating and how far a renter can expect to ride on a tank of fuel.

Speaking of accessories, make sure that you add them in the Aftermarket Parts & Features section here. Not only does this make sure that they're visible in your listing, it also allows us to cover them under the insurance policy. Aftermarket parts must be reported in order to be covered.

Update Your Availability

It might seem simple, but the single biggest reason why rentals fail is that owners don't respond. So the first thing you'll want to do is to update your contact information in your profile. We will send you emails and text messages when someone wants to book your motorcycle and you will have 18 hours to respond. If you don't respond within 18 hours we will cancel the booking. Canceled bookings can lead to your listing moving down in search results.

Once you've updated your contact information, double check your listings. The Schedule & Availability section lets you set the hours each day that you are available. It also includes a calendar so that you can block off days when your bike won't be available to rent. If you have multiple listings, the changes that you make on one can be saved and applied to all listings.

Quick Tips: Maximize Your Earnings
  • Make your motorcycle available on weekends - Most renters start their trips on Friday or Saturday.
  • Plan for busy seasons - Many owners pause their listings over the winter. But we often see owners book spring or summer trips as early as January! Keep your listing active, but block off calendar days instead.
  • Watch for long weekends - Last-minute rentals can be a big income source. Three and four-day weekends are a great way to earn some extra cash.
Price Matters

There is no single element that drives more bookings than price.

When you list your motorcycle, we suggest a listing price based on the market value of your bike, what similar models rent for across your region, and other factors. Owners will often ignore this pricing and then set a higher price based on their own feelings instead. This usually leads to them not getting bookings. If you aren’t happy with the amount of rentals you are getting, we recommend lowering the daily rate.

Quick Tips: Pricing
  • When you first list your bike, set your price $5 lower than the suggested listing value. This will help your listing stand out to potential renters.
  • As you gain bookings and reviews, your listing will move up in the search results.
  • Once you start appearing in the top of the search results for your area you can start raising your price slowly until you find bookings start to slow down.
Get More Bookings

Riders Share has many features that Owners can use to help them get more bookings. Over the years we've found out what renters want and we've made sure that you can provide it.

Gear Rental

Renters have told us over and over how much they appreciate it when they find an Owner who has gear for rent. This is especially true when the Renter is traveling from out of town. Helmets are often too big or too cumbersome to travel with on a flight, so offering helmet rental is a great way to draw attention to your listing. You choose what gear and accessories that you want to rent, you set the prices, and Renters can filter search results by listings that have gear available.

Gear is often available at very reasonable prices. Because of this, it can have an even higher return on investment than your motorcycle. A $50 pair of gloves, rented out at $5 per day, ends up being profitable after only a couple of bookings. Even better, gear that you have listed and include on a rental is covered under your Riders Share insurance.

Delivery

One of the highest-spending groups of renters on Riders Share is travelers. These renters often fly into a location where they want to ride and offering delivery is one way to grab their attention. Renters can filter by Owners that offer delivery, which means that doing so can make your listing stand out.

Local renters often appreciate delivery as well. Whether they're grabbing a bike for the day, or taking a trip for a week, having it delivered to them is one less thing they have to worry about.

Instant Bookings

Another way to make more money on Riders Share is to enable Instant Bookings. Rather than notifying you that someone has requested a booking, Instant Bookings lets any vetted and qualified renter make a reservation without you needing to confirm it. You can still choose how much advance notice you need for an instant booking, from one to twelve hours.

Quick Tips: Search Ranking
  • Price your motorcycle at or below the suggested listing value
  • Include 5 or more quality photos
  • Write a description of at least 100 words
  • Enable instant bookings and offer gear rental
  • Offer at least 200 miles per day
Get Ready for Your First Booking

With your listing optimized, it won't be long until your first booking. Here are a few boxes to check, and some tips for making it a success:

  • Refuel your bike - Each trip should start with a full tank of gas
  • Message your Renter - Coordinate your pickup time and location
  • Complete the check in - When your renter picks up the bike, follow the checkout steps and get clear photos
  • Respond to messages - Renters will often ask to extend trips, or have other questions. Be ready to answer them
  • Get paid - When the trip is over, complete the check out steps, take clear photos, and then expect your trip earnings to be deposited within 5 business days!
  • Leave a review - Owners and renters can both leave reviews for each other. This lets other owners see what type of renter they're dealing with
