From Salt Lake City: Take I-80W for about 220 miles (1 hr 45 minutes)

  1. Begin your journey on the freeway and take ‘Exit 4 - Bonneville Speedway’, located just past the truck stop.
  2. Proceed onto Speedway Road, which is a 5-mile drive to the Salt Flats.
  3. Watch for a sharp right turn that you will need to take.
  4. Pay close attention to all Bureau of Land Management (BLM) signs and adhere to the speed limits as you navigate the road.
  5. Follow the access route that only permits vehicular entry, leading directly to a cul-de-sac, commonly known as the 'boat ramp,' which serves as the main entrance.
  6. Use the right-hand lane to keep the left lane free for exiting and emergency vehicles.
  7. Only park on the roadside if explicitly permitted by event staff.

Visiting Hours and Conditions

Visitors can access the flats shortly after dawn, contingent upon clearance from an event staff member. The salt's thickness varies, particularly near the access roads, mandating adherence to designated paths at all times to avoid muddy areas. Ignoring these guidelines could result in a hefty towing fee, often exceeding $500, especially if vehicles become stranded while attempting to aid others.
