If you’re in the market for an electric motorcycle, you’re probably looking for a few features. You want it to be, well, electric- first and foremost. You want it to be a street-legal electric motorcycle. You want good performance. Last, you probably don’t want it to take a chunk out of your wallet. After all, if you’re investing in an electric motorcycle, you probably don’t want to spend an arm and a leg.
The issue brings back memories of the electric car world when Tesla took over in the early 2010s. When Tesla first launched, one of the primary barriers was cost. The early Roadster and Model S were priced far above average, appealing to a niche luxury market. Over time, with the introduction of the Model 3, Tesla began to reach more consumers by offering a relatively affordable option. The higher cost of electric motorcycles results from expensive battery technology, limited production scale, and the premium placed on being cutting-edge. Bottom line? Costs will decrease as more manufacturers enter the market and battery technology advances.
But here are our favorites…
Zero SR/F

Type: Naked Streetbike
Top Speed: 124 mph
Range: (City) 117-176 miles
Charge Time: 1.1 hours
MSRP: $20,495
Pros: Battery; solid torque/horsepower; Street, Sport, Eco and Rain modes, can charge in a wall outlet,
Cons: Expensive compared to other options, but you’re paying for speed, range, and charge time here.
The Zero SR/F is one of those electric bikes that feels like it’s straight out of the future. It has a 17.3 kWh battery paired with a 110 hp motor, giving you instant power with a punchy 140 ft-lbs of torque. You’ll get up to 187 miles of range in the city, so it's built for long rides as well as quick, fun sprints. Whether you're cruising through city streets or taking on the open road, the SR/F offers that perfect mix of tech, speed, and ease of use—without compromising on fun. It’s by far one of the most talked about standards in street-legal electric motorcycles available today, and for good reason.
Harley-Davidson LiveWire One

Type: Closest to a cruiser
Top Speed: 110 mph
Range: 70-146 miles
Charge Time: 60 minutes
MSRP: $22,799
Pros: Easy to ride, no clutch or gears, four riding modes (Eco, Rain, Street, Sport), natural throttle connection, smooth throttling, attractive design, traction control, fast charging
Cons: Heavy (562 pounds), challenging to maneuver at slow speeds, some report a trickle charge at home, small passenger seat, no grab rails, slow/heavy turn-in in corners, expensive ($$$)
Packing a 15.5 kWh battery and a 104 hp motor, the LiveWire One rockets from 0 to 60 mph in just 3 seconds, with a top speed of 115 mph. Its city range of 146 miles makes it perfect for urban riding, though longer trips will require some planning, as highway range is around 70 miles. With fast-charging capability—up to 80% in 40 minutes via DC Fast Charging—it’s easy to top up while you grab a coffee. The ride is smooth and responsive, with four riding modes and excellent handling thanks to the Showa suspension and Brembo brakes. While it’s on the pricier side at around $22,800, the LiveWire One delivers on quality, performance, and Harley-Davidson’s trademark style.
Energica Ego+

Type: Sportbike
Top Speed: 150 mph
Range: 130-261 miles
Charge Time: 80% charge in 40 minutes, or 100% in 3.5 hours
MSRP: $25,600
Pros: Holds up to its claim of 0 to 60 mph in 2.6 seconds, attractive torque
Cons: 573lbs of bike can be felt on turns- definitely not lightweight, range seems to significantly decrease based on how you ride (but I guess thats similar to fuel efficiency, right?).
The Energica Ego+ is a top contender for one of the best electric motorcycles of 2024-2025. With fast acceleration—0 to 60 in just 2.6 seconds—and a top speed of 150 mph, riders have a lot to say about it. Energica’s racing pedigree shines through in the Ego+, drawing from their experience in MotoE to bring race-worthy engineering to the streets. On the electric front, the bike packs serious innovation, with over a decade of tech development leading to patented systems like the VCU and a reliable battery pack. It’s a perfect mix of high performance, tech, and that racing DNA. Compared to other street legal electric bikes like the LiveWire, the Ego+ is often regarded as quicker and sharper.
Energica Experia

Type: Adventure Touring

Pros: Easy power delivery, 0 to 60 in 3.5 seconds, corners well and inspires confidence, Heated grips, lockable "frunk", external USB port, four riding modes, four levels of regeneration, park assistant for slow speed movement, fast charging
Cons: Mixed reviews on its “tour worthiness”, difficulty finding fast chargers in remote areas, Unclear dash with small numbers, Less responsive rear brake, ABS can engage too early, Hard-to-reach kickstand, Non-self-canceling turn signals, Lacks wind deflectors, hand guards, and center stand, high price point
The Experia checks a lot of boxes for one of the best electric motorcycles of 2024-2025. It has a bigger battery than prior model years—22.5 kWh to be exact—yet it manages to be lighter and more nimble. That’s thanks to some smart design choices, like lowering the center of gravity and improving the weight distribution. Plus, its updated motor sits lower, helping with stability and making cornering feel smooth. On top of that, it’s super practical for everyday use, with 112 liters of storage in its panniers and top case, plus four USB ports, including two in a waterproof compartment. Bottom line? It’s made for riders who want performance and convenience rolled into one.
Land Moto District Street

Type: Streetbike, but classifies it themselves as a two-wheeled electric vehicle (EV)
Top Speed: Claims 70+ mph on performance mode, but most riders say they get around 55-65 mph
Range: 40-120 miles
Charge Time: 1.5 - 5.5 hrs
MSRP: $6,995
Pros: Fully registerable, well-engineered and designed, lightweight (27-72lbs), convenient for city riding, affordable to other comparable options, made in USA (which can save on delivery $$$ depending on where you live)
Cons: Low top speed, a little bit sketchy on a freeway with its smaller tires, you’ll have to upgrade the battery if you want decent range, long charge time depending on battery size
The Land Moto District Street is a good option for urban riders looking for an eco-friendly electric motorcycle. Powered by a 12kW motor, it hits speeds over 70 mph, although you can expect a more consistent 55-65 mph. With four power modes, including e-bike and e-moped settings, it's adaptable—whether you’re cruising at 20 mph in bike lanes or pushing the throttle in full e-motorcycle mode. Its lightweight design (around 150 lbs) and swappable battery system, which offers a range of up to 120 miles with the largest pack, make it perfect for both beginners and seasoned riders. Add to that premium components like Fox EVOL suspension and Magura brakes, and the District Street delivers a fun, nimble, and sustainable ride without breaking the bank.
It’s not the best one available on the market in terms of performance, but it’s one of our best recommendations for an affordable street-legal electric motorcycle that is still capable at higher speeds and stays lightweight.
Spark Javelin Street

Type: Technically classified as a moped, with motorcycle capabilities
Top Speed: 30-55 mph
Range: 30-100+
Charge Time: 3+ hours
MSRP: $4,995
Pros: Completely customizable, built by a small team in Connecticut, FUN as all heck to ride, street legal, quick production time, solid weight (185lbs)

Its 72V battery delivers up to 60 miles of range depending on the configuration, and the open-source controller makes it highly customizable for enthusiasts. With its lightweight design, weighing just 150 pounds, and high-quality components like Magura brakes and full suspension, the Javelin is built for both city streets and light adventures. Starting at around $4,795, it's a budget-friendly option that delivers good performance for quicker rides.

Pros: Built in California, adjustable seat height, nimble- but good center of gravity, sport mode/eco mode, solid weight without being too heavy (313lbs), comfortable seat, speed/acceleration are good, meets the listed specs on the website
Cons: Short range (won’t get very far yet on this one), but I guess depending on what you need it for, it might suffice.
