Who owns the Born Free Motorcycle Show?

The Born-Free Motorcycle Show, founded in 2009 by friends Mike Davis and Grant Peterson in Orange County, quickly became a key event for vintage chopper enthusiasts, drawing over 25,000 spectators and 200 vendors with features like live music and the Invited Builder show. It’s worth mentioning that Born Free is sponsored and run by Harley-Davidson

What happens at a custom motorcycle show, anyway?

At a custom motorcycle show, enthusiasts and builders gather to showcase and admire custom-built motorcycles, each with unique modifications and craftsmanship. Here’s what typically happens at such events:

  • Bike Showcases: Builders and owners display their custom motorcycles, often featuring innovative engineering, artistic designs, and unique aesthetic touches. These bikes range from vintage restorations to modern customizations.
  • Competitions and Awards: Many shows include competitions where motorcycles are judged on various criteria like design, craftsmanship, and originality. Awards might be given for categories like Best in Show, Best Paint, Best Engineering, etc.
  • Vendor Booths: Equipment manufacturers, accessory suppliers, and lifestyle brands set up booths. Attendees can buy motorcycle parts, gear, and other merchandise.
  • Live Demonstrations: Some shows feature live demonstrations of motorcycle skills, customization techniques, or new product demos by vendors.
  • Entertainment: Music performances, stunt shows, and other entertainment are common. Features like the Ives Brothers Wall of Death, where stunt riders perform in a vertical wooden cylinder, are particularly spectacular.
  • Networking Opportunities: These events are great for meeting other enthusiasts and industry insiders, sharing tips, and discussing trends in motorcycle design and technology.
  • Educational Segments: Workshops or seminars might be conducted on topics like motorcycle maintenance, customization tips, or riding safety.
  • Special Features: Depending on the show, there might be special guest appearances, themed areas, or historical exhibits related to motorcycle culture.

Custom motorcycle shows are vibrant, community-oriented events that celebrate creativity and passion within the motorcycle community.
